Five hand instruments and a sterilisation cassette that cover a complete periodontal scaling appointment — anterior to distal molar. Here is every instrument in the tray, what it does, and why it earned its place.
The Basic Perio Kit · view product page
One tray, whole mouth
The kit follows the classic Gracey logic from our numbering guide, trimmed to a lean five-instrument setup: three area-specific Graceys for subgingival work, a universal McCall curette, and a mini sickle for supragingival calculus. Everything sits in an ErgoTray cassette, ready for the autoclave.
As a kit, the set costs noticeably less than buying the six items separately — and arrives already organised in the tray.
What's inside
Gracey 1-2
ART. 2001 X
Area-specific Gracey for incisors and canines. The gentle shank reaches facial, lingual and interproximal surfaces of all anteriors.
View instrument →Gracey 11-12
ART. 2006 X
The posterior mesial workhorse — the most-used Gracey in daily practice. Adapts along mesial root surfaces of molars and premolars.
View instrument →Gracey 13-14
ART. 2007 X
Completes the posterior pair: distal surfaces of molars and premolars, where calculus hides and access is hardest.
View instrument →McCall 17-18
ART. 2214 X
Universal curette for posteriors — two cutting edges for efficient scaling before area-specific root planing. See Gracey vs Universal.
View instrument →Mini Sickle Scaler 11-12
ART. 2182 X
Mini sickle scaler for supragingival and interproximal deposits, especially lower anteriors. The mini blade fits tight embrasures.
View instrument →ErgoTray 5, Grey
ART. 5505G
ErgoTray 5 cassette (180 × 86 × 26 mm) — instruments stay organised and protected from chairside to ultrasonic bath to autoclave.
View instrument →All five instruments come on ErgoX® handles — large-diameter silicone grips that reduce pinch force and hand fatigue over a full day of scaling.
A closer look
A full appointment with one cassette
- Gross debridement. Start supragingival with the mini sickle on interproximal and lingual anterior calculus.
- Posterior scaling. The McCall 17-18 clears moderate deposits on buccal, lingual and proximal surfaces with few instrument changes.
- Root planing. Switch to the Graceys: 1-2 anteriors, 11-12 posterior mesials, 13-14 distals. Lower shank parallel to the surface — the 70° blade angle takes care of itself.
- Reprocess. Everything back in the ErgoTray: ultrasonic, rinse, dry, autoclave at 134 °C.
A dull curette burnishes calculus instead of removing it. Here is how to know when a curette needs sharpening.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Basic Perio Kit autoclavable?
Yes — every instrument is surgical stainless steel and the ErgoTray cassette handles all standard cycles, including 134 °C.
Why only three Graceys instead of the full set?
Gracey 1-2, 11-12 and 13-14 plus a universal McCall cover most surfaces in routine perio treatment. For deep pockets and furcations, extend with 15-16/17-18 or Mini Graceys — see the complete Gracey guide.
Can I buy the instruments individually?
Yes — every component above links to its own product page. The kit costs less than buying the instruments separately.
Is the kit EU MDR compliant?
Yes. CE-marked under EU MDR 2017/745, FDA-registered, produced under ISO 13485.
