About this category

Why dentists choose ErgoDenta for Universal Curettes

Where Graceys are site-specific, universal curettes work on every surface with two parallel cutting edges. Our universal range covers the classic designs — Columbia, Barnhart and McCall — in the configurations practitioners reach for most.

Each blade is precision-machined and hand-sharpened to a keen edge that holds up through repeated sharpening. Paired with our ergonomic handles, they give hygienists a reliable go-to for mixed supra- and sub-gingival calculus.

Standard Universal

Universal periodontal curettes for all tooth surfaces. Columbia 13/14, Barnhart 1/2 & 5/6, Langer, McCall, Goldman-Fox, Duplex — anterior + posterior.

Mini Universal

Compact universal curettes for tight access. Mini Langer 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, Mini McCall 13S/14S and Mini Duplex variants. Thinner blade for deep pockets.

Frequently asked about Periodontics

Which Gracey curette goes in which sextant?
1-2 anterior, 3-4 anterior, 5-6 anterior/premolar, 7-8 posterior buccal/lingual, 9-10 posterior buccal/lingual, 11-12 posterior mesial, 13-14 posterior distal, 15-16 posterior modified mesial, 17-18 posterior modified distal.
Standard, Rigid, Mini or Titanium — what is the difference?
Standard for routine scaling, Rigid for heavier calculus removal, Mini for tight pockets and furcations, Titanium specifically for implant maintenance (will not scratch the implant surface).
How often should curettes be sharpened or replaced?
Sharpen after every 10-15 patients with a fine ceramic stone. Replace once the working edge falls below 50% of original — usually 12-18 months in steady use. Our ErgoRazor® line holds an edge longer.
Are universal curettes a substitute for Graceys?
No — universal curettes (Columbia 13/14, Younger-Good 7/8) work in all sextants but at the cost of site-specific blade angulation. Graceys give better access at the expense of needing more pieces in the cassette.
