Inside the Perio Diagnostic Kit — Every Instrument Explained

Explorer-probe combo, micro sickle and two Graceys: the tray that turns a perio exam into immediate first therapy

Probing depths, bleeding points, furcation checks — and the first targeted scaling in the same sitting. This tray pairs perio diagnostics with two Graceys, so the exam and initial therapy share one cassette.

Diagnose and act in one tray

A perio exam lives or dies on the probe readings. This kit is built around a combined explorer/probe, a mirror handle and a micro sickle, plus two ErgoSteel Plus Graceys — so when you find the 5 mm pocket, treatment starts without opening a second cassette. As a kit it costs noticeably less than buying the items separately.

The 20-minute perio exam

  1. Six-point probing with the CP-2B end — chart depths, bleeding on probing, recession.
  2. Explore. Flip to Explorer 8 to confirm subgingival calculus and root roughness.
  3. Immediate therapy. Light deposits: micro sickle. Subgingival calculus: Gracey 11-12 / 13-14. Unsure which curette when? Gracey vs Universal.
  4. Recall plan. Findings decide between the Basic Perio Kit treatment tray or maintenance with the Basic Hygienist Kit.

Frequently asked questions

What do the CP-2B probe markings measure?

Pocket depths in 2 mm increments — the standard for six-point periodontal charting.

Does the mirror handle include a mirror head?

It takes standard cone-socket heads, so you choose plain, front-surface or HD — see our mouth mirror comparison.

Why ErgoSteel Plus in this kit?

Classic solid-steel feel with ergonomic grips — preferred by clinicians who want maximum tactile feedback while probing and planing.

Is everything autoclavable?

Yes — instruments and cassette handle all standard autoclave cycles.
