Frequently asked about Diagnostics
How do I choose a mouth mirror size?
For most adult work, a #4 (22mm) front-surface mirror is the standard. #5 (24mm) is preferred for retraction and for working in posterior sextants. Pediatric and surgical mirrors run smaller (#2-3).
What is a front-surface mirror, and why does it matter?
A front-surface mirror has the reflective coating on the front of the glass — eliminating the "double image" you get from a standard back-surface mirror. Essential for accurate diagnosis at higher magnification (loupes, microscope).
Which probe should I use for periodontal charting — UNC-15, Williams, or WHO?
UNC-15 is the universal choice for full-mouth charting (1mm increments to 15mm). Williams probes use 1-2-3-5-7-8-9-10mm grading. WHO probes have a ball tip for screening (BPE/PSR).
Are ErgoDenta probes compatible with autoclaves?
Yes — every ErgoDenta diagnostic instrument is fully autoclavable at 134°C, follows EU MDR reprocessing guidance, and ships with an IFU. See our reprocessing guide at /care.
